The ADINA-TMC program
can be used for the following classes of problems:
- Fully coupled thermo-mechanical analysis
- Piezoelectric analysis (with user-supplied subroutines)
- Soil consolidation analysis (however, we recommend that this class of
problems be solved using the porous media formulation in the ADINA program).
In general, ADINA-TMC is primarily used for fully coupled thermo-mechanical
problems. In this class of problems, the thermal solution affects the structural
solution and the structural solution in turn affects the thermal solution.
A thermo-mechanical problem can include the following effects:
- Internal heat generation due to plastic deformations of the material.
- Heat transfer between contacting bodies.
- Surface heat generation due to friction on the contacting surfaces.

Example illustrating the coupled analysis of a thermo-mechanical problem involving
the effects of heat generation due to friction on contacting surfaces and
heat transfer between contacting bodies. Band plots show the temperature.
