FSI Analysis of Anti-locking Brake System (ABS)

The ADINA System is very effective in FSI analyses in which large structural motions are present. The fluid can be modeled as either incompressible, slightly compressible, or fully compressible, and totally different meshes for the fluid and structure can be used. Various turbulence models are also available.

The analysis of the model shown here gives insight into the response characteristics of an ABS system. The sudden application of the steel piston movement pushes the brake fluid into the housing and moves the steel ball in the brake fluid from the bottom of the housing to contact at the top. The pressure and flow characteristics of the brake fluid and the stresses in the steel ball are of interest.
